Preparation Is Where Exterior Painting Either Succeeds or Fails

The type of paint is important, but even the most premium, highest-quality paint will not last as long as the paint’s rated life if it is not applied over a well-prepared surface.
The first step in our exterior house painting services is a complete evaluation of all exterior areas to be painted. We look for peeling and failing paint, wood rot, caulking failures, and any other surface condition that must be addressed before painting starts. When the surface is power-washed, dirt, mildew and chalking are removed. All loose and peeling paint is completely removed and not painted over. Exterior primer is used to prime bare wood.
Cracked, shrunk or pulled back caulk around exterior windows, doors, trim joints, and any other penetrations of the exterior envelope is checked and repaired, if necessary. This action alone is enough to stop a lot of moisture from entering the home and causing paint failure and wood degradation in Connecticut homes.
Once all of this preparation work is complete, finish coats are applied, and exterior painting solutions and premium products are chosen based on Connecticut’s unique climate requirements.
